SETTLING IN Our new Year 5s have made a great start to the new academic year and have settled in very well. Well done to everyone. With this newsletter you will find a list of lunchtime and after school clubs that all our pupils may be involved in. Please do encourage your children to take part. We also run quiet rooms and homework clubs every day so that pupils can work quietly if they wish. NEW ARRIVALS We are delighted to let you know that Ms Jackson has had a baby boy, Evan. Mum, Dad and baby are all doing well. Mr Lincoln is also currently on paternity leave following the birth of his son, Archie. Congratulations to both families. You are cordially invited to attend a talk given by the county expert on ‘dyslexia and reading’ at the school on Tuesday 2 October at 4.00 p.m. She will talk about the acquisition of basic literacy skills and will provide information on aspects of dyslexia and reading. If you would like to attend please give your name to Brenda Lock at reception. PASTORAL HEAD OF YEARS 7/8 May I take this opportunity to introduce myself. As from the 5th September I have been the Pastoral Head of Years 7 and 8. My main role is to take care of the pupils’ welfare and everyday needs. Children, at the best of times, can be demanding and between me and yourselves I hope that we can make the next one or two years a comfortable journey. I do hope that you will not hesitate to get in touch with me if you feel that your son or daughter needs some support in any capacity, and I likewise will make contact whenever I feel that you should be informed of a specific incident or just to let you know how your son/daughter is getting on. Thank you. Shirley Denby SCHOOL UNIFORM Whenever people visit our school one of the most frequent comments is how professional and calm our school is. Part of this is because our pupils are in the correct uniform. We feel quite passionate about the pupils wearing the right uniform. It encourages pride and helps promote good behaviour. Thank you for your support in ensuring these high standards. We do, however, have one or two pupils who occasionally wear trainers. We now have a system in place where, if your child should arrive in school with the ‘wrong’ footwear for any reason, I will loan them a pair of plimsolls for the day. The pupils are aware of the system. Shirley Denby ART The Art department is encouraging all pupils to start a ‘journal’ to assist their studies. The journal will be used outside the art lesson for the collection of images that they like, design ideas and doodles as well as art work created at home. We believe that this initiative will help to develop their creativity and lead to an improved understanding of different art forms The ‘art journal’ can be a simple ring bound book or even a scrap book. Nothing expensive is needed. It is hoped that every pupil will be able to purchase one during this term. Thank you. LESLEY MASON DINING ROOM We would like to welcome all our new customers to the dining hall and to say how nice it is to see so many new faces. Coming in the next two weeks we have: Spaghetti Bolognaise, Chicken Supreme, Roast, Pasta Bake, Fish and Chips. On Monday 1 October we have a special menu of ROALD DAHL’S FANTASTIC LUNCH. See menus for this day in school. School lunch costs £1.80 Could you make a difference to a Suffolk child?
