Physical Education

The skills, knowledge and understanding taught in Physical Education aim to encourage a life-long interest in, and enjoyment of, physical activity as part of a healthy lifestyle.   Through a process of planning, performing and evaluating their work, pupils develop the physical and intellectual skills to participate successfully in competitive sport and perform aesthetic movement compositions.   Activities, which help to establish self-esteem through the development of physical competence, underpin the learning process.  Competitive sport is an important feature of school life, as it helps pupils to cope with success and disappointment.   We also aim to develop the qualities of commitment, fairness, enthusiasm and a concern for safety.   All pupils participate in a variety of activities in mixed or single gender groups throughout the year.   These are drawn from team games, racket skills, gymnastics, dance, swimming and athletic activities.  It is important to realise that activities take place in all weathers in order to achieve this balance in the curriculum.
