French is taught from Year 5.   We do this because we believe the younger the children the more readily they absorb a new language.   The main focus at this level is speaking and listening skills, though reading and writing are introduced through the course book.   Topics taught focus around pupils’ interests and experience, but also cover the differences and similarities of another culture. Pupil are in sets in Years 7 and 8.
